Validate boards carrying busbars, standoffs or terminals with the actual panel, supports and separation motion. Post-process appearance or continuity alone does not describe local deformation during processing. Correlate strain at selected locations with operations and product acceptance checks.

01

Include restraint and board removal in the test

We recommend documenting board thickness and copper stack, panel tabs, cut paths, hardware and fixtures together. Record clamping, separation, ejection and removal. Review tall-part interference with supports and use a board representing the current assembly.

LPKF lists panel layout, board size, component geometry and cutting method as fixture inputs. Review the actual configuration for routing, V-score separation or another process. The equipment name alone cannot establish a stress-free handling sequence.

02

Connect strain readings to location and time

IPC's assembly-strain introduction covers gauge placement, equipment and reporting. Have test personnel select representative locations and directions near the hardware, retaining a location map, sampling conditions and time histories linked to process events.

IPC's revision table lists IPC/JEDEC-9704A as No Longer Maintained, meaning no revision is currently expected. Agree the adopted edition and applicability. A different package's strain curve is not a busbar or standoff acceptance limit, and board thickness alone cannot establish one.

03

Correlate process data with finished assemblies

We recommend retaining before-and-after appearance, functionality and required solder, pad or cross-section checks on representative samples. Validate final screw assembly or harness loads separately where required. One low-strain operation does not cover later handling.

Review supports, panel tabs and operation order after an anomaly, then compare revised process records and finished results. Assess retest scope after tool, panel or hardware-position changes. Do not hide a fit issue by pressing the board or adding unapproved assembly force.

  • Freeze panel revision, assembly state and fixtures
  • Link gauge positions and waveforms to operations
  • Approve process limits and finished-product criteria separately

Frequently asked questions

Does sufficient distance from the edge remove the need for review? Support, tabs and load paths still matter; distance alone cannot establish acceptance.

Does noncontact cutting remove all validation? Review clamping, removal, edge quality and later assembly. A cutting method does not guarantee the complete process.

05

RFQ package for depaneling review

Supply board and panel drawings, hardware positions, thickness, cut paths, supports and assembly operations. Include existing strain or defect records and agree samples, process measurements and finished acceptance before freezing production.

Apply this guide to a project

Use product pages to identify the hardware family and the calculator for early estimates only. Acceptance depends on drawings, operating conditions and project tests.
