Separate sustained humidity from temperature-driven condensation when planning Cu-Al busbar validation. Test hours alone cannot rank different methods. State environment, assembly, inspections and recovery conditions so the report can be related to the project.

01

Select the environmental method

IEC 60068-2-78:2025 addresses high humidity at constant temperature without specimen condensation. IEC 60068-2-30:2025 combines humidity with cyclic temperature changes, generally producing surface condensation. Identify the method and edition rather than specifying only a damp-heat pass.

Review operation, shutdown, transport and storage histories, including cold surfaces, air ingress and trapped package moisture. Environmental review must establish relevant exposure. Damp heat does not automatically cover salt spray, immersion or cleaning chemicals.

02

Define the delivered specimen state

Bare bars, insulated parts and fastened joints represent different states. Record cut edges, transitions, covering ends, fasteners and finishes. For cabinet service, review how the enclosure changes moisture and condensation exposure.

The cyclic standard's public scope also includes transport and storage packaging validation. A packaged result cannot directly qualify unpacked operation. Define packaging, orientation and energized state; equipment owners and the laboratory must establish safety conditions for energized testing.

03

Agree timing, recovery and abnormal-result handling

We recommend baseline appearance, joint resistance and insulation checks, followed by measurements at prescribed intermediate, final and recovery stages. Identify each measurement's timing and environment. Do not combine damp and fully dried results into one unspecified acceptance condition.

Review corrosion, blistering, cracks, adhesion and interface changes alongside required electrical and connection checks. Cleaning, dismantling or drying before remeasurement can change the specimen and needs records and approval. Hours do not directly predict field life; absence of visible rust is not complete acceptance.

  • Separate noncondensing humidity from cyclic condensation
  • Freeze bare, joint or packaged specimen state
  • Agree baselines, measurement stages and recovery criteria

Frequently asked questions

Does steady damp heat cover condensation? It is not a direct substitute. Select methods from actual exposure.

Does longer testing prove long service life? Laboratory and field conditions differ; life assessment needs its own basis.

05

RFQ inputs for environmental validation

Provide installation, shutdown and storage conditions, packaging, insulation and joint drawings, proposed methods, inspections and recovery. Agree representative samples, reporting and material-change review instead of leaving an undefined damp-heat requirement in the quotation.
