The UPS DC link connects rectifiers, energy-storage capacitors and the inverter bridge. Inductance, voltage drop or looseness at one interface can grow into a system-level fault, so electrical, thermal and service paths must be designed together.
Start with capacitor ripple current
Obtain RMS and peak ripple current for each branch from switching frequency, capacitor count and layout before selecting width, thickness and supports. Keep positive and negative conductors close where the topology calls for a compact commutation loop.
Define end interfaces and insulation distances
Hole pattern, washer diameter and tool access control the real mating area. For high-voltage links, check working voltage, pollution degree, material group and altitude when setting creepage and clearance. Coating does not remove the need to verify the complete system.
- Inspect end flatness, plating and burrs
- Set a torque-to-voltage-drop baseline for every joint
- Retest at full load, low voltage and high ambient temperature
Put service actions on the drawing
UPS maintenance may replace capacitors, fans or power modules. Reserve insulated tool access, visual torque marks and poka-yoke features. Spare-part drawings should use the same datum, finish and hardware definition as the production part.
